Michi Hirata is currently working now as a free-lance make-up artist.
She came to the United States in 1973. 8 years prior to her arrival, she was working as a make-up artist and beauty consultant for Shiseido cosmetic company in Japan.
In 1977, she graduated from Yamano Beauty College in Hollywood and obtained her cosmetology license. After that, she enrolled in the professional make-up school Elegance International (EI) in Hollywood and received certificates in Motion Picture, Theatrical, Cosmetic Correction, High Fashion Professional Make-up Artistry, and Special Effect Make-up and Technical Lab-Prosthetic Construction.
In 1978, she assisted Robert Schiffer, the make-up supervisor of Disney Studio in Hollywood.
In 1980, she became a free-lance make-up artist.
In 1981, she worked along side Bruce Cohn Curtis (Producer) on his film "The Seduction" as their make-up artist.
In 2008, She opened a private make-up school ( MH Make-up Studio ) to train students to become professional make-up artist.
Also to her credit, she has worked as the make-up artist doing commercials and stills for TOYOTA, MAZDA, SUZUKI, SONY, PANASONIC, TOSHIBA, HITACHI, PEPSI, COCA-COLA, SUNTORY, MAXIM, PAPA GINO'S NEC, CYBERNET, SEIKO, SECOM, SHISEIDO, CITIZEN, OLYMPUS, BOEING and more.
Leading celebrities included were Bon Jovi, Frank Sinatra, Herbie Hancock, Dana Winter, Morgan Fairchild, Burt Lancaster, Ernest Borgnine, Henry Mancini, Kirk Douglas, Star Wars characters, Lee Van Cleef, John McEnroe, Steve Garvey, Avery Schreiber, Vince Edward, Charles Bronson, Richard Edlund, Athur Hailey and more. She was also invited and attended the 53rd and 54th Annual Oscar's Academy Awards.
1973年に単身渡米。
1976年 ハリウッド山野美容学校卒業。カリフォルニア州Cosmetologyライセンス取得。
1977年 ハリウッドEIメイクアップスクール卒業。ビバリーヒルズSalonジョルダンにてメイクアップ担当。
1978年 コロンビア映画創立者の息子ロバートコーン（プロデューサー）の計らいでハリウッドに入る。
1979年 往年のHollywoodスター、マリネディートリッヒ、マリリンモンロー、ソフィアローレン他、数多くの名優を手がけたトップメイクアップアーティスト、ロバートシェファー（ハリウッド黄金時代スクリーンビューティの先駆者）に師事。
1980年 フリーランスメイクアップアーティストとして独立。以来、CBS、KCET TV、ディズニースタジオ、アメリカ映画(The Seduction)の仕事をはじめとして主にCMフィルムそしてスチールの分野で活躍。
現在はインディペンデンツ映画等の撮影メイクに携わりながらファンタジックな世界でのメイクを追求。特にアートメイクを中心とした新しい分野での作品づくりに力を注いでいる
2008年 メイクアップスクール(MH Professional Make-up Studio)創立。

ミチ平田の手がけたHollywoodスター （ボンジョビ、フランクシナトラ、ハービーハンコック、ダナウィンター、モーガンフェアチャイルド、バートランキャスター、アーネストボォーグナイン、ヘンリーマンシーニ、カークダグラス、スターウォーズキャラクター、リーバンクリフ、エリザベスモントゴメリー、エブリシュライバー、アンドリュースティーブンス、ビンスエドワード、チャールズブロンソン、リチャードエドランド、他多数）
尚、日本からは長嶋茂雄監督のCMへアメイクを担当。
第53回、第54回、ハリウッド映画アカデミーアワードにゲストとして招待される。
